Oil Page
UPDATE 9/29/07 - After having lots of discussions with several folks, it appears that this controversy/confusion about the Pennzoil labeling is not dead, after all. To summarize all of it in two sentences....
1. "Outboard" oil, and anything LABELED outboard oil, that has the word "outboard" ANYWHERE is **NOT** Service Rating TC.
2. Pennzoil sells a flavor of "Outdoor" Equipment oil, which also is NOT Service Rating TC (air-cooled), but is suitable FOR USE in air-cooled engines and **MAY** be used in Outboard engines (see label pictures below).
Controversy, disagreement, and disinformation provided led me to purchase the product shown below as "2 Cycle", and identified in the "Article" above for my engines. I will *only* use API Service Rating TC from now on in any engine I run.
You will see that these are CLEARLY two different products, two different purposes, two different rating sets.
The "2 Cycle" was purchased from Aircraft Spruce and Specialty. Note the labeling about "rating TC".
The "Outdoor" was purchased from the local Wal Mart. It "may" be used for Outboards, as well as "outdoor" equipment, per the label.
Smaller bottles seem to be missing important pieces of information to know which is which. I can tell you this, for certain, since I have BOTH - the pints of "Outdoor" from Wal Mart is **NOT** the same stuff as the "2 Cycle Air Cooled".
Note the significant differences in product labeling on the REAR labels.
