Well, even though many of us thought it would NEVER happen, the folks at Spektrum managed to upstage their OWN DX 7 release with a series of DSM-based modules and receivers for existing module-based JR, Futaba, and Hitec transmitters.
"Spektrum" DSM Modules will work
with the following JR Radios:
347, 388, Unlimited 8, 783, PCM10, PCM10S, PCM10SX, PCM10SXII, 8103, 9303, 10X
Spektrum DSM Modules for Futaba: 7U Series Radios, 8J Series Radios, 9C Series Radios, 9Z Series Radios, FN Series Radios
A different module is available for Futaba 12Z or 14MZ Radio Systems.
ALL Modules will "talk" to AR 6100, AR7000, or AR9000 DSM Receivers!!
Basically, the Spektrum DSM modules (pictured below) simply
"replace" your existing module on your transmitter. Remove old
antenna, remove old module, install new module, install antenna into existing
antenna mount system, plug in RF connector to module.
That's it.
Of course, you must replace your existing RECEIVER with an AR9000 and get 9 channels out of JR-based transmitters, and 8 channels out of Futaba and Hitec versions.
Basically, these modules use the "PPM" pulse train in the transmitter encoder to modulate the 2.4 GHz RF stage in the module. The transmitters must be set in "PPM" mode for the DSM module to work.
YOU WILL **NOT** have the "Model Match" feature, nor the "Servo Sync" feature that the DX 7 has, because both of those features are tx-software based. (The AR9000 page on the Spektrum site states that you will have the "Servo Sync" feature, but it is ONLY if used with the DX 7)
You WILL HAVE, however, the "GUID" protection scheme of the 2.4 GHz technology to prevent other modules from taking control or interfering with yours. Binding of these systems is just like the DX 7.
For those of us who need a "custom" Transmitter case, it is also available, pictured above....custom cutouts for the DX 7 tx and slots for other accessories.
