In-Flight, ON BOARD video Project....

Decided since "helmet cams" are so dirt cheap, that I'd give it a try.  Camera was $60, 3v regulator was $12, I had all the other parts.  Of course, extended SD cards are needed, but those are almost a "staple" item anymore, but I bought a couple of 1GB SD cards on rebate for $6 each from www.Buy.com

The Camera is a "toy" helmet camera from Circuit City called "Tony Hawk Helmet Cam"  For $60, it comes with it's own editing software, and permits saving off as either .wmv or .avi formats.  64Kb of memory gives about 10 minutes record time, so I'm figuring I'll strap it on for the day, move around as needed, come home and download the whole thing.  Way more recording time than my normal FULL flying day, for sure!!

Intent is to capture how all this weird and crazy stuff we do with our gassers looks from the "drivers' seat".

My installation is easily removable, adjustable, light, and can be adapted to all my planes equally.

When I have some good videos, I'll post them here on my download page, and on RCU videos for others.

Here's the pics;

+3volt regulator and harness to plug into the RX to use on-board DC power in lieu of AAA batteries. Camera installed in home-made cradle/base.  Not pretty but fully functional.  Lead plugs into male of harness. The whole package, less the attaching straps.  All up weight of what you see here is 3.7oz., so not much of a weight penalty.

Camera and base sitting on Extra hatch.  Straps will hold front and rear, around hatch. Left side front view.  Testing reveals this is REALLY just like the Pilot's Eye view!!!  Should be pretty neat, if it all works.
