Home-Made Nose Ring .....cheap and easy to make..
Here's some prelim photos of my homemade nose ring for the ST 2300....
The parts...very simple; ring is
1/16" hard ac ply; ring mount is 1/8" lite ply. Both saturated
with thin CA after cutting, drilling. Works great.
The rubber is a grommet, 1
3/16" I.D., which I cut and CA to be a relatively snug fit on the smooth
part of the crankshaft, just behind the thrust washer. To do this, I use a
new single edge razor blade, make a radius-ed cut on one side of the grommet.
Place the cut grommet on the motor, press the grommet into contact all the way
around, and overlap the ends. Hold them in place, then make a SINGLE cut
with one press of the blade. This ensures a perfect fit for the ends of
the grommet to be re-glued. Remove the grommet, lay flat on a protected
surface, then use thin CA to glue the ends together. You'll have a
perfectly fit, circular grommet, custom fit for the ST.
I buy them at Home Depot, I imagine Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.
would have
them also.
The ply mount that it fits into can be 1/16" AC ply.
It works very well, fits perfectly, and if properly fitted ( accuracy of the
inner diameter to the grommet groove outer diameter), you won't need to glue it
in place, allowing removal if you ever wear one out.
This shows the ring in place without the
mounting plate, and not drilled.
This is the completed ring and ring
mount showing how it fits the area behind the thrust washer collet.
